Should I employ someone or outsource?

When we were recruiting recently two of us each spent in excess of 3 hours per week during the 6 week long process. In terms of our business that adds up to 36 hours, or 4-5 days!  Add to that the induction process, 1 day, training and team meetings, 1 day per month, HR requirements – 0.5 day a month – meetings and paying a HR Consultant for handbooks, contracts etc, and you’ve got a hefty bill in terms of time and pounds.

The most important part of recruiting and managing a member of staff is retention. As you can see from the above, once you’ve recruited, if you’ve found a good one (we have, thankfully!) you really want to keep them, so regular meetings, reviews, support, communication, training, and development, all need to take place.  Happy staff are the gold of our businesses and this takes a lot of time and investment.

Have you got the time and resource for all of this in house?

Because if you haven’t and many have not, then outsourcing saves all of the above.  An outsourced team also means you have 30 days notice to stop, no sickness or holidays, and a whole team of experts, not just one!

There are also benefits to having an in house person who’s bought into your vision and cares about your company.
